Counselling & Psychotherapy

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you

Maya Angelou

Counselling & Psychotherapy:

Taking the first step and reaching out for help can be difficult. It is normal to feel uncertain and worry about finding the right therapist, with whom you may go on to share some deeply personal experiences.

In my private practice I work with many aspects of human experience, like difficulties relating, loss, bereavement, depression and anxiety. My aim is to create a safe and accepting space for exploration. My approach to therapy is relational, body focused and experimental. Change often happens naturally and effortlessly when we learn to accept ourselves as we are.

What to Expect:

If you are interested in counselling & psychotherapy, please contact me to arrange an introductory session. This first meeting is for us both to get to know each other and see whether I am the right therapist for you. There is no commitment to continue after the first session. The first few sessions are to understand what you need from therapy and to develop a plan. We will review at regular intervals how you are getting on. Once you feel the therapy is completed we will have an ending phase over a couple of sessions.

Areas of Specialism:

Over the years my interest has grown particularly towards two specific areas.

Trauma & Post Traumatic Stress

Clients who arrive in therapy with me often present with some form of trauma. This may sound like a big word, but all it means is literally “wound“. As with physical wounds there can be small and big ones. While small wounds can be patched up easily, the big ones can become resistant to heal and keep hurting. When we experience adversity, pain or danger our internal alarm system gets activated. For clients who cannot process and integrate their experiences their alarm system keeps ringing causing anxiety and stress (which is a natural response to danger whether anticipated or real). Clients with a trauma history often tell me they feel as if they have “no control” over their lives, a lost sense of “safety” and haunted by (conscious or unconscious) memories of the past. In therapy, I work with you to find your internal, embodied and relational resources to regain a sense of safety. Psychotherapy can help you heal from adverse life experiences.

Gender & Sexual Diversity

People with a differing gender expression or sexual orientation still experience prejudice and discrimination in our society. Counselling and psychotherapy (in particular, the gestalt approach) is effective in improving interpersonal relationships. I take a nonjudgmental, accepting and confirming stance towards you – no matter what you bring to therapy. Clients come to me to work on their relationships with themselves and others. To heighten your awareness we may look at your relational patterns. By making sense of your process, you will gain more self-awareness which can enhance your relationship with yourself and others.

If you need more information about counselling, psychotherapy, organisational services or the gestalt approach, I am happy to discuss any questions you may have over the phone.
